How Botox Works

BOTOX ( botulinum toxin type a ) is a prescription-only medicine licensed for cosmetic use by medical professionals. It is one of the most popular treatments at our clinic. Botox acts by blocking acetylcholine, a chemical that is responsible for transmitting electrical impulses that cause facial muscles to contract in your face. This results in muscle paralysis. The resultant paralysis, however, is temporary, as the new growth of nerves will re-innervate the muscles. Hence Botox treatment is not permanent. The anti-wrinkle injections are just beneath the skin, making Botox® the most popular aesthetic treatment due to the lack of downtime needed and proven results.

Frequently Asked Questions

We advise you to avoid the following 24 hours prior to your treatment:

Drinking alcohol
Taking ibuprofen or aspirin
Extreme exercise

If you are prone to bruising, you may consider getting Arnica cream or tablets over-the-counter. Arnica helps to minimise bruising and should be taken 5 days prior to your facial filler treatment.

Please make sure you arrive 10 minutes before your appointment.

Please make sure that you are not wearing make-up on the day of your appointment.

Botulinum Toxin type A is produced by a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. It has been safely used for cosmetic and medical treatments for many years.
Botulinum Toxin type A inhibits the transmission of nerve impulses that signals muscles to contract. This reduces the contraction of specific muscles and helps soften the appearance of dynamic fine lines and wrinkles.

You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after your treatment:

Drinking alcohol
Strenuous exercise
Prolonged exposure to the sun, sunbeds, steam rooms, hot baths and hot showers
Touching the treated areas
Applying heavy makeup to the treated areas

Treatment with skin boosters performed with a sharp needle. These injections may sting briefly but most patients report mild discomfort during treatment.

To increase comfort, we can apply numbing cream to the areas being treated prior to the injections.

Profhilo® – A minimum of 2 sessions is required 1 month apart.

Seventy Hyal – A minimum of 3 sessions is required 1 month apart.

Jalupro – A minimum of 3 sessions is required 1 month apart.

Following your first treatment sessions, you would need 1-2 maintenance sessions every six months to nine months.

You will see the results within the first few days to weeks after your initial treatment.
